ISLAMABAD – Members and office bearers of National Cricket Club have challenged the sealing of the National Cricket Ground F-7/3 on the orders of Chairman CDA.
In a petition filed before the Islamabad High Court, the petitioners, through Yasser Latif Hamdani Advocate High Court and Barrister Omer Malik Advocate High Court, challenged the sealing as unconstitutional and in violation of Article 26 of the Constitution of Pakistan which provides for free access to public parks as a fundamental right.
Yasser Latif Hamdani Advocate High Court argued that the subsequent sealing of the ground by CDA amounted to an illegal, mala fide and discriminatory exercise, especially since other sealed grounds have since been restored.
It was argued that precious cricketing talent is being wasted in the city because cricketers belonging to National Cricket Club are not allowed to enter and play cricket in the ground and the National Cricket ground has been laid to waste by the CDA.
Justice Athar Minallah hearing the petition has issued a notice to CDA and has further fixed the case for next week to decide the civil miscellaneous application for interim relief.
