LAHORE: A student was found dead in his hostel room at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on Monday.
Shahmir Asif Bajwa was found ‘unresponsive’ in bed in his room on December 12. LUMS administration was informed immediately after he was found and Shahmir was immediately shifted to National Defence Hospital, where the doctors said he had expired earlier during the day. The reason behind the death could not immediately be established.
“It is with deep sorrow that we are writing to share the very tragic news: Our MIMS student and hostel resident Shahmir Asif Bajwa has passed away,” said LUMS administration in a note to students and faculty.
“Shahmir’s family has been informed and they have requested that their privacy be respected,” the note read. His family arrived in Lahore from Shahmir’s hometown Karachi today, having been prevented from reaching earlier due to the dense fog.
The matter is currently under investigation and we are not in a position to make any statement until the autopsy results are available. “We would be grateful if the media would respect the family’s privacy during this tragedy and refrain from any speculation as to the cause of death until the investigation is complete”, the note added.
