NEW YORK (News Desk) – The United Nations Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution moved by United States and Russia seeking a bar against financing the middle east based terrorist group Islamic State/ISIS/IS/ISIL by any means.
Prior to the resolution United Nations considered IS as a sub-body of al-Qaeda and treated it with the same charges.
After the resolution any country found buying illegal oil or antiques from IS group will be considered financing the terrorism. The United Nations proposed sanctions include asset freezes, travel bans, and arms embargos.
The resolution also urges all member countries to submit a report on what they have so far accomplished in cutting the finances of IS in the next 120 days.
The resolution calls on UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to write up a “strategic-level report” which deeply explores the sources of revenue of Islamic State group in next 45 days.
The joint resolution is followed by a statement of US Secretary of the State John Kerry in which he said that United States was ready to work with Russia in Syria to counter Islamic State adding that ‘Assad can stay for now.’
