LAHORE (Web Desk) – While Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is on his four day official visit to United States, the American press is all praise for Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif for his tremendous role in combating terrorism and taking Pakistan’s nuclear program to new heights.
In an article Wall Street Journal went on to say that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been dominated by powerful Raheel Sharif who has appeared at the scene like a cult hero and a soldier-statesman.
An unnamed US official has also been quoted saying that Raheel Sharif has done a lot that could not have been done by the civilian leadership, actually he can deliver.
It added that General Raheel Sahrif is filling the security political gaps created by Pakistani civilian leadership, specially the decision making power on critical security-policy matters rest with the army chief.
The paper further termed Raheel Sharif’s proposed visit to United States in November this year as a more important matter than the prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s meeting with US president Barack Obama.
“The role played by the Raheel Sharif in Afghan peace process, decision making over critical security policy matters, operation against terrorism including Islamic extremists and progress over Pakistan’s nuclear power program can’t be neglected.”
The article concluded that contrary to past there have been no rifts between Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership, instead Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has deliberately handed over the security issues to the army and himself focusing on economy and state welfare programs.
