ISLAMABAD – Following a scuffle in the National Assembly, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said on Friday that he was ready to resign if the lawmakers were not satisfied with him and considered his decision-making biased.
He was talking to the media after a meeting with parliamentary leaders. The authorities emphasized that they would determine the responsible for the brawl on Thursday, the local media reported.
The lawmakers also decided to maintain the sanctity of parliament and avoid such incidents in the future.
The speaker further said that Shehryar Khan Afridi’s membership had been suspended. He added that judicial matters regarding the prime minister could not be discussed in the parliament.
It was also agreed that video recording of National Assembly (NA) proceedings will not be made after a scuffle erupted yesterday’s session when opposition parties came forward to submit a privileged motion against the prime minister.
On the other hand, PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi threatened to boycott next parliamentary session if Shehryar Afridi would not be reinstated.
The National Assembly on Thursday turned into an arena when lawmakers from opposition and government started fighting and thrashed each other during a session.
