MOSCOW – Pakistan and the Russian Federation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for naval cooperation, in a bid to further consolidate the ties between the countries that had once been rivals.
The agreement was signed during the visit of Vice Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Kaleem Shaukat’s visit to the Russian Federation.

Spokesman of Pakistan Navy says the MoU would help expand the existing naval cooperation between the two countries, toiling to find new allies in the region.
Meanwhile, Vice Chief of Naval Staff also called on Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Federation. They exchanged views on professional matters and security situation in the Indian Ocean.
Earlier, Pakistan and Russia had agreed to enhance cooperation in the training of Armed Forces personnel in Naval field and conduct of wider range joint military exercises.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between former Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan and his Russian counterpart General Sergey Shoygu in Moscow in April this year.
The ministers had decided to enhance the level of delegations to discuss Pak-Russia defence matters comprehensively and regularly.
Pakistan is turning towards Russia in terms of military support after US President Donald Trump halted the aid in his new year’s tweet, widely disparaged by the political analysts and security experts in the South-Asian country.
