Millions of rupees in irregularities committed during PPP regime

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Auditor General of Pakistan revealed in a report on Monday that during the previous Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) regime, the Presidency and Prime Minister House were found to have committed irregularities of millions of rupees.

According to the AG’s report, over 200 million rupees were spent in ‘lavish expenditures’ by the Prime Minister House during the short tenure of former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.

Furthermore, an amount of 207 million rupees was spent in ‘generous expenditures’ in one year by the Presidency during the tenure of former President Asif Ali Zardari.

The AG’s report went on to say that employees of the Presidency also committed seven million rupees in tax evasion.

Audit officials said that the amount in tax evasion should be recovered from the employees.

The report further says that Secretary General to President Zardari, Salman Farooqi, through various allowances committed irregularities of over 16 million rupees.

Audit officials have also called for recovering the money from Farooqi.

The report also commits to end the tradition of lavish expenditures in future.
