PM Nawaz inaugurates first unit of Haveli Bahadur Shah Power Plant in Jhang

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the first unit of Haveli Bahadur Shah Power Plant having capacity of 760 megawatts in Jhang on Friday.

The complete project, which runs on Liquefied Natural Gas, is a Combined Cycle Power Plant with a total production capacity of 1230MW.

According to Radio Pakistan, the first unit of the power plant has been made functional in a record time period of 21 months.

Experts have used the world’s most efficient technology to establish the power plant which guarantees efficiency of the plant at 62.44 per cent on LNG and environment-friendly production.

Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said our foes are disturbed over unprecedented development being made during PML-N era in the country in all fields.

He said industry is booming, agriculture is growing, road network is being expanded, and tourism is thriving in the country due to the government’s untiring efforts.

Nawaz Sharif said ground-breaking of Dasu Dam having capacity of 4500 megawatt will be performed on Monday.

He said Bhasha Dam will also produce similar amount of electricity along with provision of water for irrigation purposes.

The Prime Minister said those who are conspiring against the government have been defeated repeatedly by PML-N in elections. He said these elements want to come to power through backdoors through conspiracies, but the people of Pakistan will foil their designs. He said our political opponents will not be able to compete us in elections as PML-N will defeat them with people’s support.

The Prime Minister said Lawari Tunnel project is being completed at a cost of twenty-six billion rupees and the tunnel will also be inaugurated in next few months. Similarly, Hazara-Motorway will be completed in KP. He said Thar coal power project in Sindh is also being supported by the federal government. Besides other projects, motorways are also being built in Sindh.

He said 800 billion rupees are being spent on up gradation of Railway system in Pakistan.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif said Haveli Bahadur Shah, Bhikki and Balloki power plants will add 3600 MW power to the national grid.

He said gap in power supply and demand in June 2013 was 67 percent, which has now been reduced to 19 percent.

The Minister said power transmission and distribution system is also being revamped.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said 168 billion rupees have been saved in Haveli Bahadur Shah, Bhikki and Balloki power plants due to transparency.

He said new power plants will bring development to all sectors besides creating new job opportunities.

Earlier, Project Director Rashid Mehmud Langrial said the cost of production is quite low due to transparency in bidding process, which will benefit consumers.
