Punjab Food Authority bans all fizzy drinks in educational institutes

LAHORE – Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Tuesday imposed a ban on selling of all carbonated and energy drinks at educational institutions, local media reported.

An operation is going to be launched today against such drinks in all educational places of Punjab as the deadline given by the PFA to stop the selling of the drinks ended on August 14.

PFA DG Noorul Amin Mengal said that stern action will be taken on violations, adding that all companies have been served notices to halt the supply of fizzy drinks to schools and within 100 meters of their premises.

The companies, which will not halt the supply, will have to bear full weight of law, the DG said.

Noorul Amin Mengal said around 120 countries have already ban the sales of such drinks due to their adverse effects on human health.
