Moon sighting: Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to meet on Wednesday

KARACHI (APP) – Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Karachi on June, 17 (Wednesday) for sighting of moon of Ramazan-ul-Mubarik (1436 Hijri).

The meeting will be held in the building of Pakistan Meteorological Department Karachi.

The Zonal/District Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, ICT will hold its meeting in the building of Ministry of Religious Affairs, whereas the other Zonal/District Ruet-e-Hilal committees would meet at their respective places on the same date and time, said a press release.

All the information about the position of crescent will be conveyed to the Chairman CRHC for final announcement.
Saudi Arabia has called on Muslims to sight the moon on Tuesday night to decide whether the fasting month of Ramazan will begin on Wednesday or Thursday.

The Supreme Court said Tuesday, June 16, would be the 29th of the lunar month of Shaaban and urged citizens to report to any court in case the moon is sighted.

“Those who sight it by naked eye or by telescopes should go to the nearest court and testify to the sighting,” the court said in a statement carried by local newspapers.

Saudi astronomers have ruled out the moon-sighting on Tuesday and expected Ramazan to begin on Thursday, June 18th.
