CUPERTINO, Calif – Exactly 42 years ago, Apple Inc. launched its first product in California, United States.
The Apple I, or Apple-1, is a desktop computer released by the Apple Computer Company (now Apple Inc.) in 1976. It was designed and hand-built by Steve Wozniak.
Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak co-founded Apple in early 1976 and began designing computers by hand that would be easy-to-use at home or in the office. These devices would later be known as Personal Computers or PCs.
Jobs reportedly convinced Wozniak to start the price of the Apple 1 at $666.66.
The Apple I came with a 4KB of memory and a 6502 8-bit processor. The memory was expandable to 8 or 48 KB using expansion cards.
The computer was originally sold for $666.66. Although the Apple I had a fully assembled circuit board the kit still required a power supply, display, keyboard, and case to be operational.
However, the production was discontinued on September 30, 1977.
