Alia Bhatt scrutinized for endorsing fairness creams

In a time where people are becoming aware and talking about revolutionary movements like #metoo there is still capitalism trying make women insecure about their weight, skin and looks. Recently Alia Bhatt was seen in yet another (not so) amazing Garnier ad in which the product promised to reduce dark spots and “brighten Your face”. Why the beauty standards still revolve around the complexions?

Why do we need all these products to make us to “bright” or “fair”? These are the questions which have disappointed and affected many. The advertising standards council of India was actually upheld complaint against L’Oréal for its advertisment. Stars like John Abraham, Priyanka Chopra, Sonam Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan were also a part of such campaigns.

This went so far that Priyanka Chopra in 2017 said how she regrets being a part of such campaigns in the early stages of her career. Such campaigns are not only making people superficial, insecure but they are also racist as people with dark skin tones are seen as ugly. Opinion leaders like these must understand their responsibility of creating a less self concious society .
