CHRISTCHURCH – Pakistan secured third place in the ICC Under-19 World Cup after the encounter for the third place against Afghanistan was washed out without a ball being bowled.
Pakistan secured the third place as they topped Group D with a better net-run-rate than Afghanistan.
Pakistan lost their first game to Afghanistan by five wickets but went on to beat Ireland by nine wickets and Sri Lanka by three wickets.
In the quarter-final stage, Pakistan beat South Africa by three wickets.
The green shirts were knocked out of the running for the finals as they were beaten by India in the semifinal by 203 runs.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan started their campaign on a winning note by beating Pakistan by five wickets. They defeated Sri Lanka by 32 runs under the Duckworth-lewis method and suffered a four-wicket loss to Ireland.
Afghanistan knocked out the hosts in the quarter-finals after winning by 202 runs but lost the semifinals to Australia by six wickets.-Online
