Search for missing American mountaineers called off

GILGIT – Search operation for the two missing American mountaineers has been called off after their families agreed, the officials confirmed on Sunday.

In a statement, the US families said that they have taken the tough decision because enough time had passed and there were very minute chances amid snowy storms in the area.

The mountain climbers, Kyle Dempster and Scott Adamson, had gone missing in Pakistan’s Choktoi Glacier while attempting to climb a mountain.

They were attempting to summit the 6,960-metre (22,835-feet) Ogre-II peak in the Karakoram mountain range but did not return as  scheduled.

Dempster and Adamson began their ascent of the north face of Ogre-II peak on August 21. A rescue operation was launched last Sunday.
