Mental health awareness: Two recent celebrity suicides have warned people anyone can be a victim in disguise

LAHORE – Our mental health is linked to our emotional, social and physical self. Possessing a mind that is giving you mixed signals and erratic thoughts can be overwhelming. For people dealing with psychological conditions, everyday is a struggle, everyday is the day these people will waste time and energy to prove their worth to themselves and others. And as exhausting as it sounds, this is the reality of the million smiles we come across daily.

Suicide is mostly the conclusion victims proceed with. It is the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year olds globally. However, successful business minded people with apparent happy mid lives, who are role models for people since decades can succumb to the demons of their own minds.

Furthermore, the deaths of celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, 61, and fashion designer Kate Spade, 55, highlighted the fact that mental illnesses often go undetected due to the masks victims put on.

Anthony was known for his culinary achievements and television presentations, along with several books on food and cooking and travel adventures. He was one of the most influential chefs in the world.

Kate was the founder and former co-owner of the designer brand Kate Spade New York, a successful businesswoman and a mother.

Social media has reacted to the deaths and is inconsolable, but loud and clear.

According to data provided by the World Health Organization Close to 800,000 people die due to suicide every year which is one person every 40 seconds. Many attempt suicide but are saved by timely efforts.

Let us pay more attention to the ones who are trying to present themselves as the strongest. Let us spend five minutes with the ones we love, and make the knot disappear that is a constant in their throat.
