PESHAWAR – At least eight people were killed and more than sixteen injured after heavy rains swept across part of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on Saturday.
According to local media reports, roof and walls of different houses collapsed in Bajaur Agency due to the rain.
Rescue activities are underway while injured have been shifted to district headquarters hospital in Khar for medical treatment. Political administration has declared an emergency in the hospital.
The tribal area will continue to receive rains with a heavier thunderstorm, says weather reports.
Smallest of the agencies in FATA, Bajaur has a hilly terrain. According to the 2017 census, the population is 1,093,684. It borders Afghanistan’s Kunar Province with a 52 km border. The headquarters of the agency administration is located in the town of Khaar.
At least two children were killed, while five others were injured when the roof of a house collapsed due to rain in Ghauri Town of Islamabad.
