According to details, Sikandar Hayat is an ordinary Muslim who runs a Facebook page by the name of 'Sikandar Hayat Baba' on which he shares ordinary Islamic Quotes, lectures, memes etc. It is a small page followed by around 2600 people at the moment.
However, Sikandar's world turned upside down on Saturday when an extremely blasphemous page on Facebook changed it's profile photo to Sikandar's photo. What followed was series of blasphemous posts against Islam and its Prophet (PBUH). To any ordinary Facebook user it looked as if Sikandar himself had proclaimed himself a prophet and was committing blasphemy, however this was not the case.
Upon investigation it became obvious that someone wanted to endanger Sikandar. Not only was Sikandar's phone number made public on the page, but the administrator(s) of the blasphemous page has also promised to make Sikandar's home address public by 11pm tonight. The administrators of the blasphemous page also apparently run dozens of fake profiles that seem to support the blasphemous offenses published on the page.
Sikandar himself is terrified, pleading to his Facebook fans to report the fake page made in his name. In one post he writes:
In another post he begs his followers to share his version of the story:
The content on the fake blasphemous page is such that anyone who utters any part of it will most probably killed within minutes in any city in Pakistan and Sikandar, obviously fearing for his life, wants people to share his story and clear his name of this heinous crime.
Pakistan is a country where people are extremely emotional about blasphemy against the religion or the holy figures of Islam. However, this case shows how easy it is to misdirect those emotions by making it seem like someone has committed blasphemy to get them killed.
There have also been incidents in the past where people have made false accused someone of blasphemy to get them killed, usually out of personal enmity. However, this is the first time someone has used Facebook in such a way to incite murder.
