PM Nawaz condemns Berlin Christmas market tragedy

ISLAMABAD -Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif (PM) condemned on Tuesday the Berlin Christmas market incident that killed 12 people as a truck plowed into the crowds.

The premier said that the Pakistani nation was standing with Germany in this time of grief and urged the world to be united for the elimination of terrorism.

He said Pakistan has also suffered a lot due to terrorist attacks.

A lorry plowed into a busy Christmas market near the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin at 8 p.m. on Monday night, killing at least 12 people while injuring 48 more in what police said was a suspected terror attack.

Ambulances and heavily armed police rushed to the site soon after the incident.

According to local police, the probability of terror attack can not be neglected even though the incident appeared to be a mere accident.

The police said they later arrested a man near the scene who was suspected of driving the truck, which had been stolen from a worksite in Poland about a two-hour drive from Berlin. A passenger, identified by the authorities as a Polish national, was found dead in the cab.

The incident was similar to the one in July when a truck driver ran over and killed more than 80 people during Bastille Day celebrations in France.
