Jamal Khashoggi s killers to be brought to justice, vows Saudi crown prince

RIYADH – In his first public comment since the killing of Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman terming the murder painful has vowed to bring the killers of the Saudi journalist to justice.

The crown prince was addressing the Future Investment Initiative (FII) conference in Riyadh on Wednesday. He said that justice in the Khashoggi killing case will prevail, adding that the crime cannot be justified.

He further said that Turkey, whose President Erdogan earlier this week termed its a planned murder, and Saudi Arabia will work together in this case. He said that the Kingdom was carrying out all legal things to investigate the matter and to cooperate with the Turkish government.

MBS said cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Turkey is unique and many are trying to use the murder of Khashoggi to create differences between the two countries.

Hours before the crown prince talk about the issue, US President Donald Trump gave toughest comments while talking to the Wall Street Journal. Trump said that the responsibility for the operation that led to the killing of the journalist, who worked with the Washington Post and also US resident, ultimately goes to the crown prince.

Trump said he wanted to believe Prince Mohammed when he said that lower-level officials were to blame for the murder at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

But he suggested responsibility lay higher up: “Well, the prince is running things over there more so at this stage. He´s running things and so if anybody were going to be, it would be him”.

On Oct 23, Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan claimed that the killing of Saudi journalist, Jamal Khashoggi was pre-planned and was not the result of a commotion – for which special teams were dispatched.

Addressing the legislators, the president said the killing squad landed in Turkey through special and chartered planes.

’15 members arrived in Turkey for killing Khashoggi,’ Erdogan told lawmakers in his rather blunt speech.

The Turkish leader expressed that the responsibility on Turkey increased owing to the fact that the killing took place on its land, saying Turkey would not stay silent on the issue.

Erdogan also revealed the chain of events that led to the killing of Washington Post journalist and claimed that the planning started on September 29th – three days before the killing took place.

‘The culprits would be brought to justice,’ Erdogan announced in point-blank remarks.
