LAHORE – Steven Spielberg is planning to “propose rule changes” that would specifically block Netflix, and other streaming outlets such as Amazon and Hulu, from qualifying for Oscars contention, according to Indiewire.
All us Netflix lovers would know how much we are entertained by it’s originals. We can sit for hours and watch them!
He thinks Academy awards is reserved for only theatrically released films and Netflix movies should compete for Emmys instead of Oscars. He is eager to support rule changes when it convenes for its annual post-Oscar meeting.
“We love cinema.” That’s how Netflix began a statement it issued on Twitter in response to Steven Spielberg’s reported effort to push for new guidelines regarding the eligibility of movies to compete in the Academy Awards. (Though the connection was obvious, the Netflix statement never mentioned Spielberg by name.)
