Since 2003, Depilex Smileagain Foundation (DSF) has been supporting acid and kerosene oil burnt victims through medical treatment, psycho-social support and vocational training, so that they can start living their lives successfully.
Currently, 766 acid and kerosene oil burnt victims are registered with Depilex Smileagain Foundation. They are treated without discrimination of caste, creed or religion. Many girls have already been treated or are at different stages of the medical procedure. In many cases, a victim has to undergo multiple surgeries depending on the severity of the burns.
DSF organized a Prize Distribution Ceremony at the end of a project on Monday 17th April, 2017 at Royal Palm, Lahore. The project was sponsored by Philip Morris Pakistan Limited. Under this project, 50 burn victims were provided with medical treatment, 4 psycho-social workshops were held in Punjab, Sindh and KPK including 12 victims in each workshop, 12 burn victims received beautician training out of which 8 victims managed to find employment and 4 victims are now running their own saloons. The purpose of this event was to encourage and express support for acid burn victims who have completed vocational training and self-reliant business plan education.
A large section of civil society, collaborating organizations, DSF supporters, media and volunteers were invited. Masarrat Misbah, President DSF shared mission and activities of the organization.
Acid burn victims, who were educated, trained and rehabilitated through the support of DSF, narrated their success stories. Sekar Menon (Director Regional Corporate Affairs) appreciated the successful completion of the project. He met with the beneficiaries and expressed his views on joining hands with Depilex Smileagain Foundation for the betterment of the acid and kerosene oil burn victims. Irfan Khoosat and columnist Sajjad Mir emphasized the importance of vocational training for women empowerment.
