Pakistan Railways cuts all passenger trains’ fares by 10%

LAHORE – Pakistan Railways has announced a 10 percent reduction in fares for all passenger trains.

The decision regarding reducing the fares will apply to all passenger trains, including air-conditioned services. The fares will be decreased from September 23, it said.

The Pakistan Railways said despite a 20% increase in salaries and other expenses, the fares for passenger trains have been reduced.

Earlier this month, transport fares were reduced by Rs30 to Rs70 in Punjab after a significant decrease was announced in petroleum prices.

Provincial Minister for Information, Azma Bukhari, stated that the government had been taking steps to get the transport fares reduced since the latest cut in petroleum prices in the country.

Azma Bukhari noted that no other province has reduced fares in response to falling petrol prices, making Punjab the only province to cut the fares.

On September 15, the federal government on Sunday slashed the petrol price by Rs10 per litre for the next fortnight of the running month.

The government has reduced the price of petrol by Rs10 per liter, while high-speed diesel has seen a decrease of Rs13.06 per liter. Kerosene prices have been cut by Rs11.15, and light diesel oil by Rs12.12 per liter.

With these changes, petrol now costs Rs249.10 per liter, and high-speed diesel is priced at Rs249.69 per liter. Light diesel oil has dropped to Rs141.93, and kerosene is now Rs158.47 per liter.
