Girl killed, mother injured in 'firing over marriage row'

FAISALABAD (Staff Report) - A girl was shot dead and her mother was injured in a marriage dispute within the Dijkot police precinct on Monday.

According to police, Ilyas Masih of Chak No 272-RB wanted to marry his cousin Sawera, but the girl's mother did not agree.

The refusal infuriated Ilyas, who opened fire on the girl and her mother. As a result, Sawera died on the spot while her mother Nasim suffered bullet injuries and was rushed to a local hospital.

In separate incidents, two persons including a woman attempted suicide by swallowing poison on account of domestic issues. The victims were identified as 18-year-old Zahid of Chak No 209-RB and a married woman Iqra Shahzadi of Chak No 228-RB. They were shifted to the Civil Hospital in Faisalabad.
