Shehbaz Sharif's transit remand extended till Nov 6

ISLAMABAD - An accountability court in the capital on Wednesday extended the transit remand of Shehbaz Sharif, Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly, till November 6.

A team of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) produced the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president in the court of Judge Mohammad Bashir in Islamabad as the accused was already on transit remand, which expired today, to attend the session of the parliament.

"Who has brought you here?" the accountability judge questioned Shehbaz as the hearing was started, to which he said that NAB has brought him here.

An investigation officer requested the court to extend the remand till Nov 6 as the former Punjab Chief Minister, who was arrested by the NAB Lahore on October 5 in Ashiyana Housing Scheme case, was to be presented in accountability court in Lahore to get an extension in his physical remand.

After hearing the arguments, the court extended the transit remand for seven days in that hearing that lasted for around seven minutes.

Shehbaz was brought to the court using the back door and after his brief appearance, Shehbaz Sharif reached the NAB court from front gate to attend a hearing in Flagship Investment case.

Sharif was arrested on October 5 after appearing before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Saaf Paani Company scheme. NAB said Shehbaz failed to satisfy the investigation team regarding a tender awarded to a private consultancy firm and was therefore arrested.

On Oct 29, the Lahore's NAB court had extended the physical remand of the PML-N president for second time till November 7.
