TTP Hakimullah Mehsud group claims responsibility for Sabri’s assassination

LAHORE (Web Desk) - TTP Hakimullah Mehsud group has claimed responsibility for the killing of renowned qawwal (traditional Sufi folk singer) Amjad Sabri.

Qari Saifullah Mehsud, spokesperson for the TTP Hakimullah Mehsud group, has accepted responsibility for the attack, saying Sabri was guilty of ‘blasphemy’.

Sabri was shot dead in Karachi’s Liaquatabad area on Wednesday. Two armed men fired at Sabri’s car as it was passing by the area, where he also lives.

In 2014, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had issued Sabri and two TV channels a notice for blasphemy after they played a qawwali during a morning entertainment show.
