Two policemen martyred after DSP comes under attack in Quetta
QUETTA - At least two policemen were martyred during a firing incident on Quetta's Samungli Road on Wednesday morning, local media reported.

Two unknown assailants, who were riding a bike, opened fire on the convoy of Divisional Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hameedullah Dasti when he was reportedly going to the office.

In the incident, two policemen, who were on  duty with the DSP, received bullet injuries and shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment but they succumbed to their wounds. The two martyrs identified as Mohammad Shah and Tahir Baloch.

Fortunately, the DSP remained unhurt in the attack as he was travelling in the bulletproof vehicle. The police and law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the case to trace the culprits. The assailants fled the scene after the attack.

Police and troops of other security forces often come under attack in Quetta.

On Feb 14, four personnel of FC were martyred during an attack on their vehicle on Sariab Road in Langvabad area of Quetta.

According to police officials, the deceased officials were on routine patrol duty when their vehicle was attacked by unknown assailants.

On Jan 18, two personnel of Balochistan police were killed and one injured during firing by unknown assailants on Double Road Bridge, an area of Quetta.

On Jan 16, unknown attackers killed a police constable, in what appeared to be a targeted killing, on Raisani Road in Quetta.

The constable, identified as Naseer Ahmed, was going to his office when he was gunned down. However, the attackers escaped from the spot after the attack.


On Jan 9, a strong explosion near rocked the Balochistan capital, killing at least seven people including five police personnel and injuring dozens others.

The blast took place near a police truck parked close to GPO Chowk on Quetta’s Zarghoon Road, located in the city's high-security Red Zone, around 300 metres from the provincial assembly building. The road also leads to the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
